SDS Medical has announced a new product awareness program for the patented SDS Vest to assist stroke survivors who require physical therapy at home to improve their ability to walk. “The first few weeks after discharge from an inpatient stay after a stroke are difficult as the patient attempts to use newly learned skills without the support of the rehabilitation environment or team.”

“By design, The SDS Vest allows caregivers and family members to become part of the rehabilitation process at home, reducing the patients’ risk of falling when walking, while also reducing the risk of injury to the caregiver,” stated Allan Thomas, President.

CPR delivery is physically and mentally demanding, and bystanders often lack confidence or are afraid they will harm the victim. PocketCPR increases confidence and reinforces skills learned in CPR training.

This FDA cleared device reminds the rescuer what to do before initiating CPR and coaches the rescuer with feedback during CPR. PocketCPR delivers ZOLL Medical Corporation’s proven Real CPR Help® technology in a light, portable device that measures and provides real-time feedback about the rate and depth of chest compressions during CPR.

How To Use PocketCPR

Please click <here> to view a demonstration of the quick and easy steps for using PocketCPR during a rescue situation and as a CPR training aid.

Position PocketCPR on the victim’s chest, place hands directly on top of the device and follow the prompts for
CPR chest compressions.

PocketCPR instructs the user to:

Stay calm

Call for help

Start CPR

PocketCPR features:

Real-time verbal feedback

Audible metronome

Visual indicators

Durable and reusable (requires one replaceable battery)

PocketCPR prompts the user with audible and visual feedback to perform CPR consistent with the American Heart Association (AHA) and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Guidelines – compression depth of
1.5 to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm). Real CPR Help® technology, as used in ZOLL’s AED Plus® and AED Pro® defibrillators, accurately measures the rate and depth of each chest compression.

If good compressions are delivered, PocketCPR will respond with “good compressions” and flash four LED lights. If good compressions are not being delivered, PocketCPR will instruct the user to “push harder” and will flash just one LED. An audible metronome helps guide the proper rate of compression.

PocketCPR is the perfect device for use in an emergency rescue situation, for practice following CPR training, and as a training aid for CPR Instructors.

It is strongly recommended that users have training in CPR. PocketCPR is intended to assist in the performance of AHA/ILCOR Guidelines recommended CPR on victims 8 years of age or older.

Increase your efficiency in operating rooms, labor and delivery suites, pain centers, and anywhere epidurals and spinals are performed. The Epidural Positioning Device (EPD) allows you to position patients correctly and comfortably by encouraging cervical, thoracic and lumbar flexion while maintaining a solid and stable position. The chest is amply supported to stabilize the back.pain centers and any area where operating room (OR) table clamps are not available. With smooth, rolling casters you can position the EPD for any seated patient. Locking brakes anchor the EPD in place. For added stability the stand features a locking tether for securing it to a bed or a gurney. The small footprint of the LDS allows for easy storage when not in use. With simple adjustments and ease of mobility, the EPD Package 2 is always ready to use.

1. Puncture Site and Lancing/Incision Device Selection –Determine the appropriate puncture site and lancing/ incision device for the patient and the tests requested. Using the wrong size lancet/incision device may result in excessive squeezing, prolonged or incomplete collection, poor specimen quality (hemolysis, clotting) and possible redraws, as well as injury to the patient (mainly children).

2. Warming the Puncture Site – Warming the site will increase blood flow up to seven times. CLSI guidelines recommend warming the skin puncture site for three – five minutes with a moist towel or commercially available warming device at a temperature no greater than 42°C.

3. Cleaning the Puncture Site – Allow the alcohol to air dry. Performing skin puncture through residual alcohol may be uncomfortable for the patient and cause hemolysis, which can adversely affect test results.

4. Wipe Away the First Drop of Blood – Immediately following skin puncture, platelets aggregate at the puncture site, initiating the clotting process. Without wiping away the platelet plug, bleeding may stop prior to completion of the blood collection. In addition, the first drop of blood contains tissue fluid, which can cause specimen dilution, hemolysis and clotting.

5. Avoid Milking, Scooping or Scraping of the Puncture Site – It is recommended to touch the collector end of the container to the drop of blood. After collecting 2 or 3 drops, the blood will flow down the container wall to the bottom of the tube. Excessive squeezing (milking), scooping and scraping may cause hemolysis and/or tissue fluid contamination of the specimen. Using a “scooping” or scraping motion along the surface of the skin can also result in platelet activation, promoting platelet clumping and clotting.

6. Collect Specimen Quickly – Specimens must be collected quickly to minimize platelet clumping and microclot formation (hematology testing). Specimens also should be collected quickly to avoid exposure to air and light (blood gases and bilirubin testing).

7. Fill to the Correct Fill Volume – Fill containers to the recommended fill volume (if indicated). Underfilled containers will have higher concentrations of additives. Higher concentrations of K2EDTA may cause erroneous results for MCV and red cell indices and cause RBC and WBC morphological artifacts. Consequently, overfilled containers will have lower concentrations of EDTA and may result in clotting.

8. Mix Specimen – Microcollection tubes must be inverted the appropriate number of times to ensure that the blood and anticoagulant are sufficiently mixed. Mixing is essential to prevent the formation of microclots and platelet
clumps, which can cause inaccurate or erroneous test results.

Standard crutches are hard on the body and haven’t changed much over the course of history. The last major innovation was revising the basic “T” shape to the now ubiquitous adjustable A-frame—and that was during World War II.

Mobilegs takes the design to the 21st century with modern materials and careful attention to ergonomic factors (which should come as no surprise given that their inventor helped design the Aeron chair). The new design provides better stability and reduces the type of secondary injuries—like nerve damage and wrist strain—associated with its predecessors. Better still, the lightweight crutches cost the same as the standard set.

Why should you buy a Powered Transport Cart?

Think how many boxes, cans and other heavy and bulky items get moved from receiving to other areas of your facility. Think about how far they travel. Do they go up or down sloped floors or ramps between buildings or over parking lots?

Now think about who is moving them and how. Are they doing it safely?

Studies show the average direct cost of a workers comp claim in material handling is over $ 24,000. Indirect costs can be 4 to 5 times greater. If your healthcare facility is looking for ways to avoid these claims, adding powered transport carts makes financial sense.

Harloff’s Power-Move line of powered transport carts transforms the movement of material from a task to a breeze.

Adding powered transport carts to your material handling accomplishes the following important objectives:

Injury Prevention avoiding workers compensation claims

Achieving safety and ergonomic improvement goals

Improving employee satisfaction

Harloff offers four sizes and capacities of transport carts to meet all handling needs (model HTP4025 shown above). Features include:

Delivered ready-to-use

Intuitive controls with user-friendly variable speed control

Non-marking, flat-free tires

Two 12-volt maintenance-free batteries with smart charging system

The SofPull™ Centerpull Tissue Dispenser is putting a new spin on one-at-a-time dispensing. The latest design from Georgia-Pacific Professional, this unique innovation is the first of its kind in the United States and makes it easy to get the right amount of tissue with one pull – reducing waste, overhead costs and promoting wellness through increased hygiene.

The SofPull dispensing system features a completely enclosed roll, with sheet-by-sheet feeding of tissue pulled from a small opening in the front and leaving a minimal amount of tissue exposed. This contemporary design helps improve on the traditional pull-style of tissue dispensers because it allows for no-fuss, one-at-a-time dispensing. Since the tissues are previously untouched, the tissue is more hygienic and helps reduce the chance of cross-contamination. Users also pull one tissue at a time, which has proven to help reduce usage.

“SofPull is the first single dispensing, center pull system in the U.S. and is a premier innovation in the tissue category because of its efficient design,” said Nick Trainer, vice president and general manager – Georgia-Pacific Professional’s tissue and soap category. “The dispenser’s ability to help eliminate crosscontamination while also helping to reduce costs for the facility represents the next step in Georgia-Pacific Professional’s commitment to quality products that are better for the user, customer and environment.”

The SofPull dispenser is part of Georgia-Pacific Professional’s Green by Design™ Program for environmental sustainability. The system has 60 percent less packaging waste per case than Georgia-Pacific Professional’s jumbo bath tissue. It also has been well received in test markets because it eliminates overspinning and minimizes roll replacement. The tissue used in this dispenser is a soft, two-ply product that meets EPA standards for recycled content. Further, there is no outer carton or inner wrapping, which helps conserve paper use.

Are your looking for a safe, economical and effective alternative to silver dressings? Then you should take a look at Sorbact general wound dressings.

• Can replace silver dressings and other dressings for general wound care
• Can save your customer money (up to 20%)
• Can increase your average gross product (25 – 30% typical)
• Can displace most other common wound dressings (less to stock)
• Can be used in all wound care applications in all markets

The appropriate Sorbact dressing is chosen and then applied to the wound.

Hydrophobic bacteria and fungi bind to Sorbact’s surface upon contact, resulting in a reduction of the microbial load and the release of extracellular toxins.

Upon removal of the Sorbact dressing, the bound hydrophobic bacteria and fungi are physically extracted and then disposed with the dressing.
As a result, wounds heal faster with fewer, and more comfortable dressing changes.

SORBACT® – Green Wound Healing
NO RESISTANCE DEVELOPMENT – NO ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS WHAT IS GREEN WOUND HEALING?
• The Sorbact method uniquely protects our environment by combating pathogenic resistance to antibiotics
• Sorbact is derived from natural elements like cotton, wood pulp, and fatty acids
• Sorbact reduces the use of topical agents such as silver, – a heavy metal classified as hazardous waste
• Sorbact has no disposal issues
